    BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met here Sunday with Mongolian Prime Minister Sanj Bayar, who is here to attend the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games.

    "The attendance of Mongolian president to the opening ceremony and your attendance to the closing ceremony showed the importance Mongolia attached to the Beijing Olympic Games, as well as the Mongolian people’s deep affection for the Chinese people," Wen said.

    He congratulated the Mongolian athletic team on making a historic breakthrough at the Games.

    Mongolia’s Tuvshinbayar Naidan beat Askhat Zhitkeyev, of Kazakhstan, in the men’s 100kg class judo on Aug. 14, winning Mongolia’s first Olympic gold medal in 44 years.

    Bayar highly praised the organization of the Games, noting it showed China’s progress in social and economic development in recent years.

    Speaking positively of the development of China-Mongolia relations, Wen said the two countries are good neighbors, and the Chinese government takes the ties with Mongolia as an important one in its relations with neighboring countries.

    China is willing to take the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties with Mongolia as an opportunity to promote the bilateral relations, Wen said.

    Bayar said Mongolia hopes to celebrate the anniversary jointly with China and further enhance the good-neighborly friendship of mutual trust between the two countries.

    He also invited 60 Chinese children from earthquake-hit areas to recuperate in Mongolia next year.

  BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met here on Sunday with new Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, known as Prachanda, discussing bilateral relations and the Beijing Olympic Games.

    Congratulating Prachanda on his swearing in as prime minister, Wen said China respected the social system and way of development Nepal had chosen according to its situation.

    He believed it would realize political stability and economic development through joint efforts of all political parties and under the leadership of Prachanda, who was here to attend the Games closing ceremony on Sunday evening.

    China and Nepal were good neighbors and China was satisfied with the current development of bilateral relations, Wen said. He noted China would work with Nepal to further the reciprocal cooperation in various fields and benefit the two peoples.

    Prachanda said the friendship between China and Nepal had endured the test of time. Historic changes were taking place in Nepal’s domestic situation. The Nepali government and people were striving for national stability and economic development, and hoped to get support and cooperation from China.

    Nepal would, as always, supports China’s efforts to maintain national sovereignty and territorial integrity, Prachanda said.

    BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — China’s central authorities on Sunday congratulated the Chinese athletes on their "achievement of a major historic breakthrough" and "significant contributions" to the Beijing Olympic Games.

    "The motherland and people feel proud of you. We extend warm congratulations and heartfelt compliments to you, who have won immense glory for your country and people," read a congratulatory message jointly sent by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the State Council, China’s cabinet.

    By scoring the best ever result at the Olympic Games with 51 gold, 21 silver and 28 bronze medals, the Chinese sports delegation has "achieved a major historic breakthrough," "written a new chapter of China’s sports development," and "made significant contributions to the hosting of a high-standard and unique Olympic Games in Beijing," the message noted.

    The Chinese sports delegation, which has topped the gold medal table at these Games, has demonstrated sportsmanship and the Olympic spirit both in and out of the competition grounds, revealing to the world the Chinese nation’s unyielding spirit, solidarity and pursuit of peace and progress, said the message.

    The Chinese athletes also took the opportunity of these Games to have exchanges with their counterparts from other parts of the world, which has helped promote mutual understanding and friendship among people all over the world, it added.

    "With your concrete action, you have greatly inspired the patriotic passion and hard-working spirit of people of all ethnic groups in the country, encouraged them to actively push forward reform and opening-up and the socialist modernization drive, and made an outstanding contribution to the International Olympic Movement," it said.

    "We hope you will earnestly sum up your experience and refrain from complacency, and make persistent efforts to win even greater honor for the motherland and people. We hope to see you make new contributions to China’s sports development and the promotion of the Olympic spirit and the International Olympic Movement," it concluded.

    The Chinese athletes won 32 golds, 17 silvers and 14 bronzes at the previous Olympic Games in Athens 2004, trailing only behind the United States on the gold tally.
